Match Report |
Division 1 Pelicans II 2 Broadland II 2 Kat Maddox fired Broadland ahead after a mix up between two Pelicans defenders provided her with the opportunity to get a strong finish on the ball, and might have put the visitors further ahead in Broadland’s next attack when her initial shot came back off the post and with the Pelicans’ keeper completely stranded and their defence flat-footed, failed to contact with the ball about a metre in front of an empty net. Undeterred by this Broadland continued to dominate possession until late in the half when Tracy Brown for Pelicans managed to wriggle through the Broadland defence to get a shot away to beat Broadland’s goalkeeper and star player Sarah Craig. With all to play for in the second half Pelicans up their game and went ahead with a bizarre goal from Emma Hotchin who blocked a clearance, the loose ball ballooning over both Broadland defender and goalkeeper to give her side the lead. With both sides now desperate for different reasons the game became stretched and somewhat disjointed which allowed both sets of forwards numerous chances to score but with Broadland’s Sarah Craig in great form, Pelicans failed to score. Broadland however, took their one good opportunity to manufacture an equaliser through Nikki Baker. Pelicans II star play was Lucy Lim.
