Match Report | Saturday 21st April Empresa Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Division 1 Carrow 0 Broadland II 5 Needing to win their last game of the season to claim second spot and promotion, Broadland II’s set about their task with great commitment and drive and rose to the occasion by playing some outstanding hockey to keep Carrow penned in their half for long periods of the game. Broadland converted a penalty corner after five minutes play when their star player Abi Dennison, raced along the goal line to divert Dani Parke’s goal bound effort past the Carrow goal keeper. Dennison increased Broadland’s grip on the game minutes later, with a tremendous run and powerful finish which gave the home keeper little chance to make a save. Broadland continued to bombard the Carrow goal and following numerous penalty corner attempts went further ahead when Nat Brooks fierce strike, although partially blocked by the keeper’s pads, the ball managed to find its way through her legs and feet and across the line for a third. The second half looked to be heading in the same direction, especially when Brooks got the slightest of touches for her second and Broadlands fourth. Carrow, to their credit started to create opportunities but poor finishing and some smart saves from Sarah Craig in the Broadland goal denied them a goal. Committed to attack, Carrow conceded in the dying seconds of the game when Tamsin Highfield finished of an incisive Broadland counter attack that left the Carrow keeper totally isolated and facing three opponents. |
