Match Report | Saturday 8th December 2018 Empresa Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Premier Division Broadland II 0 Broadland I 7 After a shaky start Broadland’s senior side had what turned out to be a comfortable win over their second team by 7 goals to nil. Broadland I’s had control of the ball for much of the game but Broadland 2’s made them work extremely hard for the points. Broadland 2’s Lisa Gill made an instinctive save to deny the 1’s the opener with a spectacular overhead clearance but could not prevent Kelly Allen putting the 1‘s ahead after 10 minutes with a comfortable finish from close in. With a determined and well organised 2nd XI in front of them and their star player Emma Piddock magnificent in goal, their second goal scored by Helen Brockington did not come until late in the first half. Broadland 1’s stepped up the pace in the second period and began to increase the pressure on the 2’s goal. Dani Parke volleyed in a loose ball and captain Lydia Lawrence being on hand to force the ball over the line to get herself on the score sheet. Broadland 1’s were awarded a penalty stroke after the ball was illegally stopped on the line by a defender’s foot and because of an infringement by the goalkeeper, Natalie Brooks had a second attempt which unfortunately bounced off the base of the post. Helen Brockington shot the 1’s further ahead towards the end of the game with a powerful strike and with time running out Broadland I’s star player Abi Dennison converted a penalty corner with a pin=point finish to complete the scoring.
