Match Report | East Men’s Hockey League Division 5 (North East) Broadland Exiles 1 Dereham III 4 Exiles slow of the mark were hit by two quick fire goals which somehow set the scene for the rest of the game. Two further attempts by Dereham III, an open goal miss and a rebound off the post and some amazing saves by goalkeeper James Edward-Scott kept Exile in the game until half time. Exiles commenced the second half in a more defiant mood and might have pulled a goal back but for some wayward finishing. Dereham again found the Exiles net again and moments later put the game to bed with another goal. Will Mullens scored a late consolation goal for Exiles. Paper Report This was a big match for Exiles who had an 8 point lead over Dereham but unfortunately we started slowly and a quick-fire double left Exiles reeling. Exiles then got away with one when their striker somehow missed an open goal and again when another strike flicked off the inside of the post. There was also some amazing saves by James Edward-Scott which kept exiles in the game. Then in last 10 mins of the the first half Exiles started to assert themselves but lacked a final pass so they went in at half time 0-2 down. The second half started brightly for exiles but again lacked that initiative in the final third. The momentum swung back to Dereham as they lashed in another quick-fire double. Exiles had a couple of good chances especially when Simon Nisbet went one on one but even though his hit was clean it went wide. We did manage a consolation through our tenacious defender Will Mullens who bobbled it into the bottom left. The game ended a disappointing 1-4 but exile still have a 5 point cushion so still all to play for.
