Division 2 Broadland III 3 Norwich Dragons VII 1 Broadland III secured their first win this season and their first league success since the end of March 2018 against Norwich Dragons VII. Short of a player through miss direction until 10 minutes before the break Broadland and particularly their goalkeeper………………had to work hard to deny the away side what would have been a well-deserved opener. Broadland now with a full complement began to take control of the game and worked the ball through the Dragon’s defence and were awarded their first penalty corner of the game after a foot infringement in Dragon’s defensive circle. Fiona White’s well-placed injection was matched by Carolyn Duthie’s controlled stop which gave her an extra second or two to drill the ball goalward. The shot was blocked but Hannah Killick was on hand to force the ball over the line for her first goal for Broadland. The home team by now looking the team most likely to score next dually did in their next foray up field as Duthie turned and fired across the Dragon’s keeper, the ball coming back off the post into the path of Killick who made certain with the calmness of finishes for her second of the game. Broadland commenced the second half looking to kill the game off and within a minute or two their efforts were rewarded with another goal this time from their star player Aleisha Alexander who ghosting behind the Dragon’s backline struck a venomous ball past the now exposed visitor’s keeper. To their credit Dragons matched Broadland’s effort and were rewarded with a consolation goal near the end through Laura Nuthall. |
