East Women’s Hockey League Division North East Broadland 1 Norwich City II 1 Norwich City 2’s with two wins out of two games were pegged back by their local rivals Broadland, the result of the game being in the balance until the final seconds of the game. City 2’s came out of the blocks with great determination and forced Broadland to defend in depth and despite having long periods of possession failed to make inroads into the Broadland rear-guard. Broadland’s star player Jenny Whiting, in the thick of things at the centre of their defence, made some timely tackles and interceptions to keep her side in the game. With no score at the break the game fluctuated from end to end as Broadland sensed that they were more than a match for that mornings league leaders and then took the lead themselves with less than ten minutes to go, Abi Dennison pouncing on a loose ball when Catherine Brewster’s initial shot at a penalty corner rebounded into her path, Dennison’s shot being unstoppable. Clearly stung the City attack visibly stepped up their game and threw all they had at the home side and despite Broadland’s best efforts managed to find an equalizer at the death through Rosie Ringer whose effort flew into the top right-hand corner of the net in the last hit of the game.
