Match Report | Saturday 19th October 2019 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 (North-East) Broadland 2 Norwich Dragons II 0 Although Norwich Dragons held the upper hand in the early stages of the game, Broadland matched them with some great rear guard action. Jen Crawford made some magnificent saves and clearances to keep her side in contention. Having soaked up a lot of pressure from the visitors Broadland began to probe the Dragons defence and were awarded a free hit near the edge of the Dragons circle. Natasha Blyth sensing the moment strode into the away teams circle and struck the ball purposely across the Dragons keeper and on to the far post, giving Lydia Lawrence a simple opportunity to put Broadland ahead. Unfortunately for Dragons their keeper in an effort to prevent the goal was injured and had to be helped off the field at this point. Dragons now with 11 outfield players, realising their vulnerability at penalty corners defended desperately with some vigorous challenges as Broadland kept them on the back foot but eventually their resistance was broken when a foot inside the circle lead to a penalty corner. Broadland’s captain Hattie Hobart scoring their second goal with a powerful flick. the league position for another week. |
