Match Report | East Men’s Hockey League Division 5 (North East) Newmarket II 4 Broadland Exiles 6 Dan Cheeseman celebrates his 5th hattrick of the season in 10 goal thriller. Newmarket surprised early league leaders Broadland by taking the lead with a fierce cross and simple finish at the back post. Broadland reacted swiftly and equalised through Dan Cheeseman and then went ahead through a penalty corner strike from Ricky Powley. Newmarket too found an equaliser but Exiles again immediately responded with a perfect penalty corner strike from Rob Panter. Leading by 3 goals to two Exiles began the second half well enough but Newmarket to their credit clawed their way back into the game with their own penalty corner equalizer. Robbie Dix fired Exiles back into the lead but this was short lived as Newmarket converted a penalty stroke after a goal line clearance was blocked by a defender’s body. With the result of the game in the balance Cheeseman’s second goal swung the game in favour of Broadland and with Robbie Whiting manufacturing numerous opportunities, Cheeseman’s hat trick goal sealed the victory for the league leaders. |
