Empresa Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Premier Division Broadland II 4 East Coast II 0 Broadland got over the disappointment of last week’s dismal performance against UEA II with a morale boosting win against East Coast 2. Broadland started the game with a flourish having numerous opportunities but failing to find their target through some wayward shooting and some excellent work by the East Coast goalkeeper who denied Broadland on more than one occasion. Broadland’s joint star players , mother and daughter combination Wendy and Amelia Anema supported by the rapidly developing Hannah Marjoram and Georgia Glen held sway in the midfield and broke down most of East Coast’s attack leaving their defence, well organised by Emma Goldsmith, to sweep up at the back. Broadland’s break through, halfway through the first half came when Wendy Anema hunted down the ball and drove it into the path of Broadland’s captain Holley Becker who powered home from close-in. Broadland commenced the second half as they ended the first on the attack and any thoughts of a comeback by East Coast were dashed when Nikki Kent unmarked on the left ghosted past her marker to double Broadland’s lead. Verity Becker buzzing around behind the attack set up Wendy Anema who in turn set up Broadland’s captain Holley Becker for Broadland’s third, a bouncing shot which left the East Coast keeper stranded. Sensing they had the mastery of the game Broadland pushed on and got a fourth and final goal as Kent atoning for an earlier and easier opportunity guided the ball into the net. East Coast had their first penalty corner opportunity near the end which came to nought. East Coast’s star player was Desi Reed.
