Match Report East Men’s Hockey League Division 5 North East Newmarket 1. Broadland Exiles 7 This was a potential hiccup for Exiles who need to win every game to stay in 1st place. Newmarket came out of blocks and pressed eExiles but after some good defending and even better counter attacking, Exiles took the lead when Rob Dix scored a well struck penalty corner. Newmarket continued to have lots of the ball but Exiles again caught Newmarket on the counter when Dan Cheesman slipped a ball to debutante Ed Sidgewick who fooled the keeper and buried his shot into the bottom right corner. Exiles then scored again when a delightful pass by Ben Panter was found by the sliding Robbie Whiting who finished in style. Half time 3-0. Exiles had a awkward start to the second half when a Newmarket midfielder jinxed past 4 players and flicked it into the top corner to make it 3-1. This however, was the end of the comeback and Exiles soon added a 4th through a slightly controversial and fortuitous goal. Dan Cheesman ran just inside the D and a wayward pass which the keeper jumped over , found its way into the net. The 5th goal needed no luck as captain Simon Nisbet fed the ball to Man of the Match Rob Dix who once inside the D lashed an unstoppable bullet into the far left corner. Exiles then scored another soon after when Rob Dix set up Sam Brewster who whipped in a cross which Cheesman tucked away with supreme skill and class. A deft touch between his legs which also nutmegged the keeper. Provider then became the scorer for Exiles after Sidgewick laid it on a plate for Brewster who tapped in from close range.
