Match Report | Following Broadland Hockey Club’s Ist Xl extensive in-housework-out, their 2nd XI combined with their3rd XI to take on fellow Norfolk Premier League side Loddon 1 in a pre-season friendly. Although the Taverham based home side Broadland lost by four goals to one the score line does not truly reflect the game. Broadland 2’s with more than enough players in their squad dominated the game and kept Loddon on the back foot for the first 12 minutes playing some attractive midfield and forward play whilst their back line ably marshalled by Izzie London kept Loddon at distance. A hopeful punt up field from Loddon fell kindly to a Loddon forward and a scramble in front of the goal gave Broadland’s stand-in and rookie goalkeeper little opportunity to make a save. Broadland at this point made a number of changes to their team and paid the price as Loddon capitalized on the unsettling nature of such rearrangements to surge ahead with two further goals. In the second period of the game, Broadland continued to recycle their players and pulled a goal back when a Loddon player illegally prevented a goal with the use of her foot to give away a penalty stroke. Broadland 2’s captain and last seasons leading scorer Holley Becker stepped up to take the stroke. Although the Loddon goalkeeper dived the right way there was too much pace on the ball as Holley Becker’s stroke flew past her out-stretched hand. With both teams tiring Loddon scored again towards the end of this hard fought and enjoyable pre-season friendly. Broadland, a friendly and welcoming club, who are keen to develop their teams and develop relationships with the local community are actively seeking players, especially goalkeepers. Their coaching set-up is excellent and progressive. Training sessions are on Tuesday evenings 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Taverham High School. If you are interested in becoming a goalkeeper, equipment is provided by the club. By the way training is free. |
