Match Report | Norfolk Women’s Hockey League Premier Division Broadland II 2 Norwich Dragons IV 1 Broadland started this game at a fast pace with a number of storming attacks on the Dragons’ goal and were rewarded when Verity Becker’s fine run and accurate shot gave Broadland the lead. Broadland continued to press hard and a run to the by-line and cross from Becker fell to her sister and Broadland’s captain Holley Becker who in turn placed it into the path of Nikki Baker who skilfully converted the chance into a goal. Broadland two up at the break had to be resolute in their defending as Dragons came out and started the second half with renewed determination putting Broadland under intense pressure. A well worked long corner and deflection fell to a Dragons player in the circle which resulted in a goal. In spite of the intense pressure from Dragons in the remainder of the half Broadland’s defence of Tamsin Highfield, Emma Goldsmith, Tess Hewitt, and Georgia Glenn, along .with help from a hard-working midfield, Broadland kept them at bay. With very little time remaining, a Broadland foot on the goal line resulted in Dragons being awarded a penalty stroke. Unfortunately, it was not Dragons day as the Dragon’s players effort was watched past the wrong side of the post by the home team’s keeper. Frantic efforts in the closing seconds from Dragon’s came to nothing as stubborn defending by Broadland enabled the home side to claim their first win of the season and all the points. Thanks to A really good report. |
