Dragons IIs made a confident start to what turned out to be a match played a fast and furious pace with Broadland forced to defend two penalty corners within the first 5 minutes. Broadland’s keeper and star player, Jen Crawford, was called into action with a super save near the right-hand post to deny Dragons an early lead.  Broadland finally managed to mount some promising attacks with strong runs down the right wing by Helen Kelly and Abi Denison and seized their opportunity when Kelly Allen won Broadland’s first penalty corner of the game.  Despite the short corner not going to plan, Catherine Brewster picked out Dani Parke who confidently shot across the keeper to put Broadland in front.

Dragons restarted the second period with great resolve but Broadland held them off with some staunch defending especially from Jenny Whiting and Hattie Hobart.  Dragons pulled a goal back and with visibility reduced due to torrential rain it became tricky for everyone on the pitch to see clearly. It was during this period that Dragons were awarded a penalty stroke, although the Dragons player made a good effort but on this occasion she was no match for Jen Crawford who confidently predicted and saved the attempt. The Broadland defence held strong against mounting Dragons pressure but eventually they were unable to stop two further goals from open play.    Report from Helen Brockington
