Match Report |
Saturday 16th October 2021 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East Bury St Edmunds II 3 Broadland 1 A victory for the home side in their first ever encounter between these two clubs was a big blow for the Norfolk club after grinding out 3 points against Norfolk rivals Harleston Magpies IV last week. Broadland under pressure from the start conceded from an early penalty corner after 5 minutes, when a firm strike to the left of Jen Crawford in the Broadland goal slammed against the backboards. Broadland rallied but with their backs to the proverbial wall and their defence at full stretch a number of notable deflections by Rachel Fields and a brilliant goal line clearance by Hattie Hobart kept them in the game. Bury’s second goal came again from a penalty corner with an element of luck when a deflection off a Broadland defender flew over goalkeeper Crawford and into the net. Another deflection in the second period, close to the far post resulted in a further goal but in spite of this disappointing set= back Broadland began to develop their own game through Abi Dennison and Verity Becker with Kelly Allen reducing the arrears after a precise cut back by Becker to the penalty spot.s. |
