Match Report | Saturday 30th October 2021 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East Broadland 2 Norwich Dragons III 1 Broadland regained their ‘wow’ factor with a stunning display of teamwork against Norwich Dragons III. A win against a tough Dragons side looked unlikely in the first 10 minutes when the visitor’s dominated possession and forced Broadland to defend in depth. Suddenly as Dragons early fire was extinguished, Broadland’s midfield of Verity Becker, Becky Reynolds, Abi Dennison and Broadland’s star player Helen Harper began to dominate and constructed a number of opportunities for Broadland’s front two of Holley Becker and Kelly Allen. A ball driven hard straight up the centre, missed by a Dragon’s defender was pounced on by Holley Becker who skilfully negotiated her way past the last defender to create the opportunity to put Broadland ahead. Although Dragons responded with a number of counter attacks more than often came to nought as their wide players failed to keep the ball in play. The second period of play began in similar fashion to the first as the visitors strove to get back in the game but as soon as Broadland regained control of possession, they went further ahead in the 43rd minute when Helen Kelly pushing forward with a strong run to send in a pin-point cross . Using all her experience Kelly Allen doubled Broadland’s lead with a strong finish Dragons came back into the game with a penalty corner through Gail Thomas to set Broadland’s nerves jangling but they easily held on to their lead for their second win of the season.
