East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East

Broadland  0     Ipswich II  9

League leaders Ipswich somewhat flattered by the score line had all the lucky breaks while their hosts hardly had a look in. Broadland awarded the first penalty corner of the game might have taken the lead, but Becky Reynold’s effort was a fraction off target. From that moment on it was all hands to the pump as Broadland had to defend in depth as Ipswich stepped up their offensive and began to mount wave after wave of attacks  on the Broadland goal  Although overwhelmed at times Broadland resisted manfully, but any breaks offered by their opponents were swiftly extinguished.

Ipswich by contrast capitalised on any loose balls in the Broadland defensive zone with shots on target which either hit the post and went in or were played by a Broadland defender into their own goal or on to Ipswich forwards stick in front of an open goal.

With Ipswich leading by 4 goals at the break they continued into the second half the same fashion as they did in the first, pinning Broadland into their own 25 with numerous penalty corners and open play strikes which either took a deflection or created easy opportunities for their swift and highly motivated players’. Scoring a further 5 goals, two of which being scored in the last 90 seconds to highlight their superiority   Broadland in spite of being outplayed for much of the game battled to the end but unfortunately looked outclassed by Ipswich who were faster to the ball, skilful and tougher in the tackle.
