Match Report | Saturday 20th November 2021 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East East Coast 0 Broadland 1 An early morning rendezvous and bracing trip to the seaside, saw Broadland facing mid-table East Coast one place below Broadland in the league. Broadland worked hard as a team, with both their defenders and mid-field players marking well to keep the home side at arm’s length, and with the forward line creating opportunities at the other end of the pitch a goal looked likely at any time. It took however, to just before the half time break to get the reward their excellent play deserved when following an infringement, they were awarded a penalty corner. The penalty corner was confidently executed, with a slip to the right from Helen Kelly to Nikki Kent, whose reverse stick pass to the near post found Abi Dennison perfectly poised to fire the ball past the East Coast goalkeeper to open the scoring. Kelly Allen, Broadland’s star player continued to challenge the Lowestoft defence, driving the Broadland attack, but Broadland couldn't manage to find another goal. Newcomer to the Broadland squad Milly Derrick, stepping up from the 2nd team did not look out of place and as East Coast battled hard to seek an equalizer Derrick made a number of timely interceptions to set up opportunities for a number of Broadland counterattacks. In the dying minutes of the game East Coast had the opportunity to find an equaliser, but the Broadland defence stood firm at the penalty corner to claim all the points their team effort richly deserved.
