Match Report | Saturday 26th February 2022 East Men’s Hockey League Division 4 North East Norwich Dragons IV 1 Broadland Exiles 7 This was an important game for Broadland Exiles, a win would maintain their 8-point advantage over 3rd placed Ipswich III. With 5 games remaining Exiles need 2 wins and a draw to secure promotion. Exiles started reasonably well and scored the first goal, a thunderous shot at the edge of the D from Dan Cheeseman which was deflected into the top corner by their captain Sam Brewster. Within a couple of minutes a slick counter attack by Dragons got them back into the game, their striker was left in 1 on 1 with the Exiles keeper James Edward Scott. Exiles A reshuffle of the Exiles defence saw out the half. Exiles, keen to get on the front foot commenced the second half like a whirlwind with a bullet of a debut goal from Bertie Tully (a reverse hit shot into the bottom corner). Exiles surged forward and went further ahead when Dan Cheesman picked up a sublime pass from Rob Dix to further increase their grip on the game. The match then became a bit of a rout when Cheeseman scored a further two to complete to his hattrick. On after a great team effort, starting near the backline with a series of beautiful passes that brought a superb finish from Cheeseman Rob Dix who had been having a great game then added to the tally from a penalty corner with a well-placed shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the home teams goal. Fergus Clark finished the scoring with another successful short corner near the full-time whistle, which took a deflection off a defender into the top corner. Exiles only need 4 more points from 4 games to secure another promotion. Report from Sam Brewster |
