Match Report | Saturday 5th March 2022 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East Ipswich II 7 Broadland 0 Ipswich 2’s second in the league and unbeaten this season except by the league leaders Norwich City 2’s always looked dangerous, but Broadland’s defence was playing some great hockey and were determined not to concede and took the game to Ipswich on a number of occasions. Intense pressure from the home side however took its toll, with a goal from open play giving Ipswich a slender lead at the break. Ipswich restarted the game realising they needed to put this game to bed stepping up their game with barrage after barrage of penalty corners, but Broadland remained focused and stoutly defended all that was thrown at them As is ever the case with Broadland, it took a strike and good fortune to put the skids under them. A cracking reverse stick strike, that ricocheted into the top right corner of the Broadland goal from crossbar and the upright, seemed to lift the Ipswich side and encouraged them to redouble their efforts as they began to sense a goal fest. Although Ipswich had numerous penalty corner opportunities, they only managed to convert a couple of them and a few goals from open play as the Broadland rear guard ran out of energy. With this latest reversal and things tightening up at the bottom of the division, Broadland need to take this never-say-die spirit forward to their next weeks game at Taverham . where they face East Coast.
