Match Report | Saturday 12th March 2022 East Women’s Hockey League Division 2 North East Broadland 1 East Coast 0 Broadland playing the better hockey in the first half had a number of shots that were tantalizingly wide of the mark. Natasha Blyth in an unfamiliar forward role was unlucky not to open the scoring when one of her attempts came back off the post. East Coast equally had plenty of the ball and a number penalty corners but with their receiver failing to get a stick on the ball on the majority of occasions, so their routines broke down and came to nothing. With no score at the break and both sides working hard to gain the upper hand there were few clear opportunities for either team to open the scoring. Broadland continued to take the game to their opponents and had a number of penalty corners themselves especially late on in the second half. With less than two minutes to go Broadland had the breakthrough their endeavour’s deserved when second half substitute Dani Parke attempted to lob the East Coast goalkeeper.at a penalty corner Her effort was on target but lacked pace and was parried by the East Coast goalkeeper into the path of the Broadland forwards. The East Coast defenders’ unable to get any contact on the ball could only watch as Natasha Blyth put a powerful shot in from the edge of the circle which took a slight deflection raising the ball into a colleague’s body and over then over the line. Broadland had to defend an overtime penalty corner late on, but this was easily cleared by captain Jen Crawford. Defender Hattie Grimes was Broadland’s star player.
