East Women’s Hockey League

Division 3 North East

Broadland I   12     Carrow I   0

In form Broadland, one of the divisional leaders, ran riot against mid-table Carrow with a terrific display of midfield control and team interplay, together with some superb finishing. Going ahead after just 4 minutes through Saskia Snelle-Vermeer who being alert,  controlled a rebound off the visitors’ keeper, and slotted home.  With in minutes Broadland doubled their lead through Kelly Allen following a wonderful period of team play which brought the ball out of defence, a move which saw Jess Bennett fire the ball into the path of Abi Dennison, who in turn swiftly transferred the ball to Hannah Majoram.  She in turn brought Verity Becker into play with her deceptive pass setting up  Allen who powered the ball home from close in.   Powerhouse Becker got her name on the score sheet herself with a thunderous shot as Broadland began to warm to the game.  Carrow rallied slightly keeping Broadland at arm’s length but with Broadland always first to the ball their options were always limited.  Becker planted a solid strike past the Carrow keeper for her second as Carrow’s heads visible dropped.  Dominating the game Broadland began to play some wonderful possession hockey, creating opportunities every few minutes to increase their score.  Lydia Lawrence got her name on the list of goal scorers but equally Catherine Brewster might have,  as she graciously let Lawrence tap the ball over the line.  With half time looming Snelle-Vemeer fired in her second as Broadland finished the half six goals to the good.

Broadland commenced the second half how they started the first half with a goal after 5 minutes through Natasha Blyth and a second for Blyth a couple of minutes later  Totally dominating the later stages of the game Lawrence scored her second with Allen, Snelle-Vemeer and Becker going on to complete individual hattricks.  Superb performances from every member of the Broadland XI.
