Ladies 3rds Vs UEA 5

Broadland 3’s enviable record of conceding no goals this season ended abruptly with a 1 – 0 defeat by UEA V.  After another early start for the 3’s which seems to be the theme for this season, the game off to a cracking start with both sets of players playing some fast and furious hockey. UEA were awarded a dubious penalty corner early on. However, this was brilliantly dealt with by our determined defence, which lead into a fast counterattack, with Nikki and Yvonne both coming closest to scoring. Towards the end of the first half UEA stepped up the pace again, with some fast breaks down the flanks, one of which led to their goal!  Unfortunately, this was one of those goals that got fumbled on the goal line, giving the UEA an advantage 1 -nil. Second half commenced like the first half finished with wave after wave attacks from the UEA, but because we are stubborn and determined the 3’s would not give in! Broadland also had their chances to bury the ball into back of the net, with Nikki, Yvonne and Em coming close, with the UEA goalkeeper being forced to make a save as Yvonne put a shot just wide of the post! At the other end Corks made two brilliant saves off the goal line, with Beccy and Laura standing their ground and Jen putting in some super sliding saves, to keep us in the game. As the second half progressed, Dinky and then Anne had to go off for one reason or another but soon came back on. Unfortunately, with 5 minutes to go Corks suffered a hamstring injury which forced the game to end early. This was an outstanding performance by the whole team who ran their socks off and were unlucky to lose!   Report from Corks
