East Women’s Hockey League

Division 3 North East (North)

Broadland 4 Norwich Dragons IV 2

Broadland looking for a fast start dominated the ball for the early stages and might have gone ahead but were unfortunately got caught on the break by a Dragons attack down the centre and conceded after just after six minutes. Undeterred Broadland continued to attack the visitor’s goal at every opportunity and were rewarded for their efforts when Jess Bennett fired home an equaliser from the centre of a packed circle. Verity Becker always a live wire put Broadland ahead having been set up by Jess, and then surged further in front with a deft touch by her at the near post which left the visitor’s keeper clutching at air and completely flat footed. Four minutes into the second period after tremendous work by their star player Helen Kelly, Broadland took any initiative and possible fight back away from Dragons when the experienced Kelly Allan came out of no-where on the right of their attack and slammed the ball past the desperate Dragon’s keeper for their fourth goal. To their credit Dragons never gave up but failed to get past the Broadland defence well marshalled by Rachel Aldous, Catherine Brewster and, particularly Jen Whiting.(sporting a black eye and stich after last Sundays win against UEA II), and Hannah Margoram who played the whole match without a break With less than ten minutes remaining Dragons pulled a goal back with a deflected effort high over the Broadland keeper but this was too little and too late as Broadland remained in control of the game.
