East Women’s Hockey League

Norwich Dragons V 1 Broadland II 3

Broadland II’s looking to turn their season around produced a superb performance against local rivals Norwich Dragons V, turning a 1-3 defeat earlier in the season into a 3-1 win. Broadland II arriving at the Dragons Den in good spirits, began in a determined fashion manufacturing a number of clear opportunities one of which, a hard strike from Elle Couzins flew into the home sides net off the keeper’s pads for the opening goal of the game. Connie and Isabelle Harris controlling the midfield set up Lydia Cross and Kelly Holman on the left-hand side both of whom made some dazzling forward runs, creating havoc in the Dragon’s rearguard. With Broadland leading by one goal at the break and all to play for, Dragons mounted a response, but Broadland’s central pairing of Emma Goldsmith and Emma Chambers…………….. asserted their grip on the midfield and denied any development of Dragon’s attacking aspirations. A penetrating cross ball from Elle Cousins put Kelly Holman through but a crazy challenge by the Dragons keeper ended her run. Dani Garwood took the resulting penalty stroke, hard and low which easily beat the home sides keeper. Awarded a penalty corner late on, and despite Dani Garwood’s strike being saved by the Dragon’s keeper, unfortunately for Dragons the clearance fell into the path of Lydia Cross who calmly picked her spot to give Broadland a three-goal advantage. With less than a minute on the clock scored Dragons managed to beat Dani Parke for what turned out what turned out to be a consolation goal.
