East Women’s Hockey League

Division 3 North East North

Carrow 0 Broadland 3

Getting to grips with a sticky pitch at Langley School took the shine of the game and somewhat blunted Broadlands creative midfield. Carrow playing and using the ball well, pressed the visitors goal but were unable to capitalise on some good moves switching the ball successfully around the Broadland attack and midfield on numerous occasions. Recognising the danger Carrow might do to their unbeaten record Broadland raised their game and began to develop opportunities in front of the Carrow goal. Awarded a penalty corner early in the second period, Broadland took the lead with some good fortune when Lydia Lawrence’s goal attempt was denied her and with Helen Kelly mistiming her attempt the ball fell kindly to the penalty corner injector Kelly Allen, who again had luck on her side pushing the ball through the goalkeepers legs for the opening goal. Within a couple of minutes Broadland surged ahead through the inform Verity Becker who powered the ball into the home team net from the edge of the circle. Within 20 minutes of the half time restart Broadland put this game to bed with another well-rehearsed penalty corner routine, orchestrated by Catherine Brewster who set up Kelly Allen for her second goal of the game. Broadland’s players found it difficult to nominate a star player of the game so Catherine Brewster, Isabelle Harris and Connie Harris this week jointly hold the award.
